Whether you’ve got a special event coming up that you need to slim down for, or after years of putting it off you’ve decided to finally lose weight, the question remains, what are the best stomach flattening exercises to get the job done? What combination of exercises will produce actual results as quickly as possible? The answer to these questions may sound a little counter intuitive, but it is not exercises that focus on your midsection.

Many people have the false idea that doing crunches and sit-ups diligently everyday is going to result in a slimmer waistline but these exercises will not get rid of the fat on your belly. If you have a layer of fat over your abdominal muscles, than exercising them using ab exercises is only going to make your stomach look bigger. What you first need to do is burn that layer of fat off using cardio exercise such as running, swimming, aerobics, or even brisk walking. These are more effective stomach flattening exercises. The more intensive the cardio routine and the more consistently you stick to it will determine how fast you slim down. A particular type of cardio called interval training has been shown to be very effective in burning unwanted fat. To do interval training your workout has to involve varying levels of intensity like walk back sprints, which entail sprinting a certain distance, than walking back, and then sprinting again. Any cardio exercise can implement interval training, just make sure your workout alternates between high activity and moderate activity.

There is one more type of activity that needs to be included in your stomach flattening exercises, and that is strength training. Weight lifting, circuit training, body weight exercises like yoga, Pilates, push-ups and lunges, basically anything that challenges your muscles. This type of exercise is extremely important for long-term weight loss because it builds lean muscle, which in turn speeds up your metabolism. The best stomach flattening exercises are a combination of both interval training and strength training. When you combine the two activities your body becomes a revved up fat burning machine, which will whittle down your waist size extremely quickly.
